SPOTLESS CAST HOW TO
When bad goes to worse in her family, Birdie is forced to figure out how to run her own life for the first time without the help of anyone - and just maybe learn to be happy without having to live up to anyone’s expectations. It sure helps that handsome Justin Matisse ( Harry Connick Jr.) is around to not only be her only source of support but also to reignite some flame in her that she thought went out a long time ago.

As the former homecoming queen, she is forced to face former high school friends and foes who take pleasure in her national embarrassment. Writer: Steven Rogers and Brandine SpucklerĬast: Sandra Bullock, Harry Connick Jr., Gena Rowlands, Mae Whitman, Roddy McDowall, Michael Paré, and Kathy NajimyĪfter being humiliated on a daytime talk show by the reveal of an affair between her best friend and her husband, Birdie ( Sandra Bullock) has to move back home with her young daughter ( Mae Whitman) to live with her mother ( Gena Rowlands). The line between love and hate is practically non-existent in Lucy and Josh’s case, calling their every action over their years-long rivalry into question. Hale shines as the conflict begins to build within her character, and the irresistible nature of both characters draws them to each other despite their many, many differences. The chemistry between the two leads is palpable, leading to a beautiful depiction of their characters’ incredibly complicated romantic feelings for each other. As their game continues, the two begin to slowly recognize the feelings they’ve had for one another but kept hidden in the name of professionalism and preserving their relationship at work. As the two vie for the same promotion within their company, they begin to face off, trying to one-up on the other at every opportunity. The Hating Game is a fun tale of a blossoming enemies-to-lovers romance between two co-workers, Lucy ( Lucy Hale) and Josh ( Austin Stowell). Haleigh FoutchĬast: Lucy Hale, Austin Stowell, Damon Daunno, Sakina Jaffrey, Corbin Bernsen, and Yasha Jackson Adore plays like a prestige drama but way kinker and trashier, and if you can lean into its salacious swerve, there's pleasure in the perversion of this soapy melodrama and a cautionary tale about boundaries that aren't meant to be crossed. It's Oedipal to the utmost, utterly unacceptable, and of course, that taboo is what makes it all so darn erotic.

Watts and Wright both deliver the kind of soul-searching performances you'd expect from them, and writer/director Anne Fontaine stretches out every moment of lurid desire and tender transgression with the understanding that as untoward as the circumstance may be, it's all strung on an underpinning of deep, shared love. Adore treats the concept seriously, with a lot of warmth and understanding for the morally conflicted characters and their salacious and oh-so-steamy predicament. Adore gets real weird with it in what's pretty much a dramatic rendering of The Lonely Island's "Mother Lover" starring Naomi Watts and Robin Wright as two lifelong best friends who fall for each other's sons. Looking for something fairly twisted without going full-on Nymphomaniac? Look no further. Cast: Naomi Watts, Robin Wright, Xavier Samuel, James Frecheville, Ben Mendelsohn
